In February 2021, a domestic client living in Beetham Tower, Manchester City Centre, reached out to Cheshire Soundproofing with concerns about excessive noise from the apartment above. As one of Manchester’s tallest and most prestigious residential buildings, Beetham Tower offers luxury living—but like many high-rise apartments, noise transfer between floors can be an issue.
The client was struggling with airborne noise from footsteps, conversations, and general activity coming from the upper floor. The lack of adequate acoustic insulation in the ceiling meant that even normal household sounds were causing daily disruptions. They needed a discreet but effective solution that would significantly reduce noise while maintaining the high-end aesthetic of their home.
Our Solution – A Specialist Acoustic Ceiling System in Manchester City Centre
After a full acoustic assessment, we designed and installed an Independent Acoustic Ceiling System to create a barrier between the client’s apartment and the space above. This system was engineered to decouple the ceiling, preventing sound vibrations from travelling through the structure.
Key Soundproofing Measures Implemented:
✔ Decoupled Acoustic Ceiling System: We used acoustic hangers to separate the new ceiling from the original structure, reducing sound transfer.
✔ High-Density Acoustic Mineral Wool: Installed within the ceiling cavity to absorb airborne noise and improve overall sound insulation.
✔ Tecsound Acoustic Membrane: A specialist rubber-based soundproofing layer was added to block low-frequency noise.
✔ Acoustic Plasterboard: Two layers of high-mass soundproof plasterboard were fitted to enhance noise reduction.
✔ Acoustic Sealing & Finishing: The system was fully airtight sealed and plastered, ensuring a seamless finish that blended with the apartment’s interior.
✔ Apartment Reconfiguration: Alongside the soundproofing work, we also removed and reinstalled partition walls to improve the apartment’s layout, demonstrating our versatility as skilled dry-liners.

The new acoustic ceiling system significantly reduced noise levels, making the apartment noticeably quieter. The client could now enjoy their home without being disturbed by unwanted sounds from above.
